Arthur’s Club was founded in 2020 by Artistic Director Rebecca, inspired by her son who is a Makaton user. We create high-quality and imaginative content for children in new and exciting ways. We make our work with Creatives, Speech and Language Therapists, Special Educational Needs Communication Specialists and Makaton Tutors. Inclusion is at our core. We tell stories that everyone can enjoy together – and importantly everything we do is fun.
About the Play
Arthur’s Club: Stories From The Island is an inclusive, interactive storytelling show for children aged 3-8 years and their grownups. Created with Makaton signing woven into the script from the initial script development stage, the show is created with inclusive practice at the heart of the creative decisions, enabling all children to enjoy the show together. Audiences will join Squirrel (our performer who also signs) and Bagley (a signing puppet) on their adventures, collecting clues, learning signs, catching stories, and making new friends. The overarching narrative of Squirrel and Bagley searching for ‘stories to catch’ is interspersed with puppetry and signed storytelling of 3 stories written for the show by award-winning published children’s writers; Anna Wilson, James Henry and Anna O’Steele with the overarching script written by Craig Barr-Green.
